Yobe State Commissioner of Basic and Secondary Education, Dr Muhammad Sani Idriss, received a report on Thursday from an ad hoc committee that assessed the status and policy compliance of all private schools in the state.

While receiving the committee’s report presented to him by its chairman, Dr Abba Idriss Adam, the commissioner stressed that all private schools must not deviate from the culture, norms, and values of the people of the state.

He added that private schools in the state must not prioritise financial gains over their primary responsibility of imparting sound education.

“All private schools in the state must also adhere to the policies and programmes of Gov Mai Mala Buni’s administration in promoting the education sector in the state,” he said.

The commissioner reiterated the position of the ministry that any private school that fails to abide by those conditions risks being shut down by the government.

He equally called on private school proprietors who have not registered with the ministry to do so and those already registered to apply for licence renewal before December 2023.

Dr Idriss warned that government in the state will not condone the infiltration of unwanted books.

“In Yobe State, we value our beliefs and culture and place a high premium on morality and decency. Hence, we will guard them jealously and by not allowing malicious culture to corrupt them,” he said.
