The Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission, YBSIEC, has rescheduled the date for the conduct of the local government election to May 25 2024.
FLYINGEZE BLOG had reported that November 25 2023, was the date slated for the exercise.
The Executive Chairman, YBSIEC, Dr Mamman Mohammed, revealed this during a stakeholders meeting in Damaturu.
He said Governor Mai Mala Buni had approved the date of election for the 17 Chairmen and 178 Councilors of the local government council in Yobe State.
“That is in consonance with the provision of section 197 of the constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended”, he added.
Mohammed said registered political parties in the state would be issued with election guidelines to enable them to fill in suitable candidates for the entrenchment of good governance at the grassroots level.
He tasked his staff and electoral officers to double their efforts to ensure success at the polls.
“The State Independent Electoral Commission will therefore take responsibility to undertake, organise and supervise the local government council election, which shall be free, fair, credible and peaceful,” he assured.
He stressed that all Yobeans are eligible to contest for councillorship and the chairmanship after attaining the age of 25 and 30 without gender bias and must be sane, are not bankrupt, and must undergo security screening.
