With one eye on the summit in China, the is pursuing its nuclear doctrine back home.

Today, its military has kicked off three days of nuclear exercises in allied Belarus, which borders states Latvia, and Poland.

More than 64,000 people and 7,800 pieces of military equipment will be involved in the drills, which will rehearse “the preparation and use of nuclear forces in the event of aggression”.

Russian rocket forces, the Northern and Pacific fleets, long-range aviation and units from the Leningrad and Central military regions will take part.

An estimated 200 missile launchers, 140 aircraft, 73 surface ships and 13 submarines including eight strategic nuclear submarines will also be unleashed this week.

Putin has also doubled down on his onslaught in Ukraine despite claiming he wants “peace.”

Drone pummelled port infrastructure in the Ukrainian city of Izmail in the early hours of this morning.

“Port infrastructure facilities in the city of Izmail were damaged,” local officials said on Telegram, adding that nearly all aerial attack weapons were destroyed.

“Fortunately, there were no casualties or significant destruction.”.

Attacks were also reported in the regions of Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv and Zaporizhzhia.
