CHELSEA stalling on a deal for Xavi Simons could open the door for Tottenham to make a late swoop.
RB Leipzig star Simons, 22, had been expected to move to Stamford Bridge by now after a summer-long pursuit.

But a deal still has not been done as deadline day inches closer.
There have been suggestions the Blues need to sell more players to finance a transfer.
And there are now genuine doubts whether one will be concluded in time.
Spurs have been looking for a new No10 in what has turned into a frustrating close-season for boss Thomas Frank .
Tottenham missed out on Morgan Gibbs-White at the start of the summer after a late change of mind from the Nottingham Forest star.
And then last week saw their move for Eberechi Eze hijacked by Arsenal at the last minute.
Now SunSport understands there is some interest from the North Londoners in Simons, whom Leipzig are open to selling this month.
The Dutchman is believed to favour a switch to Chelsea .

But if that move does not materialise, may have to reconsider his options.
Simons is understood to be seeking big wages though, which could prove a hurdle for Spurs.
And Leipzig would be demanding a fee in the region of £60million.
Spurs are also believed to be considering a late move for Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche, 23, who on Wednesday was called up to the France squad for the first time.
