XABI Alonso has all but confirmed his own appointment as the new Chelsea manager, just hours after the club’s defeat in the FA Cup final.

In the wake of it emerged that Alonso was close to being announced as the new permanent boss at .

And Alonso appeared to confirm the news with a tweet on X first thing Sunday morning.

The former Real Madrid boss shared a post from Spanish publication Marca reporting his imminent appointment as Chelsea manager.

And he also wrote: “, on the verge of becoming Chelsea’s coach.”

Alonso, 44, has been out of work since being sacked by in January.

And the former star has agreed to join , despite many Reds fans calling for to be sacked and their former hero to replace him.

Alonso will be the SIXTH permanent boss under the current BlueCo regime.

It is understood he has been promised a bigger say in recruitment.

The news will be a boost for fans after the disappointment of losing the final to at the end of a disastrous season.

Alonso previously won the double with , leading the club to an incredible unbeaten title and DFB-Pokal, as well as the final.

He joined last summer, but left the role one day after the club’s 3-2 defeat to in the Supercopa de Espana.

Alonso was the preferred candidate to take over ahead of ‘s , ‘s and former star Filipe Luis.

With the club looking set to miss out on European next season, Alonso will have the chance to implement his tactical ideas week to week.

Alonso will have big boots to fill however, because only one boss under the leadership of BlueCo has lasted more than a year, .
