Former England defender, Gary Neville, has named Brazilian football legend Ronaldo as the player France captain Kylian Mbappe reminds him of.
Neville spoke on ITV’s live coverage while commenting on Mbappe’s goal against Sweden at the World Cup.
Mbappe scored a brace as France defeated Sweden 3-0 in the World Cup Round of 32 to qualify for the Round of 16 stage.
“Yes, I was watching Mbappe throughout the first half, and of course, we have seen him perform many times before,” Neville said.
“He reminds me of Ronaldo from Brazil – when he gets into that area, he executes those subtle feints that are truly terrifying. I played against Ronaldo from Brazil three or four times.
“Today, Mbappe was being defended by Gyökeres, and against a player like that, you can only commit to one side; you have to desperately block his right foot and force him to shoot with his left.”
Mbappe already has six goals at the ongoing World Cup and will hope to lead France to victory when they face Paraguay in the Round of 16 this weekend.
