A YOUNG woman in her twenties has reportedly been sexually assaulted outside of a shop in a distressing attack.

Cops have launched an appeal for information following the report a middle aged man put his hand down the victim’s trousers.

The man is described as “white, aged between 48 and 50 with short brown hair and wearing a red raincoat”.

Northumbria Police have now launched a public appeal for more information regarding the assault.

The alleged incident took place on Friday 28 November outside a shop near Newcastle city centre.

Police said the man reportedly approached the young woman from behind before putting his hand down her trousers.

He then left the area on foot.

The victim, a woman in her twenties, was reportedly left “feeling distressed” by the assault.

Northumbria Police said: “At around 6.30pm on Friday November 28, we received a report of a sexual assault outside of a store on Mill Lane.

“It was reported that a woman had exited the European Mini Market and was approached from behind by a man unknown to her.”

The force said it had pursued “a number of enquiries” following the report, including reviewing CCTV from the area.

“We are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or has any information, to get in touch,” it said.
