A TEENAGER has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a car was reportedly driven into a crowd of women.

One woman was left fighting for her life following the crash just after 1am on Friday.

Police received a report that two people had been injured while on Keelmans Terrace, in Blyth, Northumberland.

The force said a car was allegedly driven towards a group of women who were standing on the path and hit two of them before driving away.

Officers added that the women and the drivers of the vehicle knew each other and had been involved in an earlier altercation.

Detective Chief Inspector Graeme Barr, of Northumbria Police’s Major Investigation Team (MIT), said: “This has clearly been a very serious incident which has resulted in two people being injured, with one left in a life-threatening condition.

“The investigation is at an early stage, but we do believe that those involved are known to each other.

“One person has been arrested and we are continuing to conduct enquiries in the area and offer reassurance to the public.

“We are particularly keen to hear from anyone with doorbell CCTV or dash cam footage.

“We would also like to hear from those who may have seen a small, dark coloured sports utility vehicle (SUV) car which is believed to have been in and around the area between 1am and 1.30am in the early hours of Friday.

“From our enquiries, it is understood that the victims of the collision on Keelmans Terrace were involved in an earlier altercation on or near Stephen Street between 1.15am and 1.20am with the occupants of the same dark coloured vehicle, although no-one was reported to have been injured.

“Please come forward – the information you are able to provide might just prove crucial in helping to establish the circumstances behind this report.”
