A WOMAN has died and a man is fighting for his life after they entered the sea to rescue their dog.
Emergency crews scrambled to Fleetwood Beach in Thornton Cleveleys, Lancashire, shortly after 8pm on Saturday.
It followed reports of two people in trouble in the water.
The pair, both believed to be in their 60s, had gone into the sea after their dog became stuck.
A major rescue operation was launched involving HM Coastguard and paramedics.
The woman was pulled from the water but could not be saved.
The man was also recovered and rushed for treatment.
He remains in a critical condition.
The dog was rescued from the incident.
