Tragic Incident: 23-Year-Old Woman Killed by Falling Man Who Survived 12-Story Drop

A YOUNG woman has died after a man plunged from the 12th floor of a building and landed on top of her in Japan.

Houra Inaba, 23, was walking along the street in Nagoya around 1am when Shinsei Taguchi, 29, fell on her.

Inaba had been with a friend who called the emergency services when the horror incident unfolded.

Both Inaba and Taguchi were rushed to hospital, but Inaba tragically died.

Taguchi remains unconscious and in critical condition following the incident on July 19.

It remains unknown if he jumped deliberately or if it was an accidental fall.

The area was cordoned off following the tragedy with forensic officers gathering evidence from the scene.

Aichi Prefectural Police say officers are still investigating.

The fall took place near Yabamachi Station on the Nagoya Municipal Subway Meijo Line, in an area densely populated with high-rise apartments and offices.

The Sakae district is also known for its many shops, entertainment venues, and heavy pedestrian traffic.

It follows similar fatal incidents in several major urban areas across Japan.

In August 2024, a 17-year-old high school girl jumped from a commercial building in Yokohama, killing a 32-year-old woman walking below.

The two women were immediately rushed to hospital after being found bleeding outside Yokohama Station.

The 17-year-old girl died an hour later, and the 32-year-old woman died shortly after from her injuries.

Based on official statistics, more people under 18 commit suicide on September 1 than any other day in Japan, just before the start of the academic year.

However, the police were unable to determine a cause in the Yokohama suicide case.

In October 2020, a 17-year-old high school boy jumped from a commercial complex in Osaka, killing a 19-year-old female university student on the street.
