A WOMAN has been found dead in a pond in a public park amid an unexplained death investigation.

Officers were called to Lowther Gardens in Lytham, Lancashire, at around 9am today following reports of a body in the water.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, where the body of a woman was found.

Police have not yet established her identity and are treating the death as unexplained while enquiries continue.

Entrances to the gardens were blocked by police vehicles and the gates were taped off in a major emergency response.

Police, firefighters and an air ambulance were all called to the scene.

A walking group which was due to enter the gardens at 10.30am was said to have been left shocked by the discovery.

Staff were also reportedly still inside the Lowther Pavilion building while the surrounding gardens remained sealed off.

The gardens remained cordoned off as the investigation continued.
