A WOMAN has been airlifted to hospital after a tree brought down by strong winds crushed her car, sparking traffic chaos.
were scrambled to Whitchurch, Shropshire, yesterday afternoon after receiving reports a tree had come down on top of a car.
Ambulance Service scrambled an air ambulance to the scene.
A woman was rushed to hospital with minor injuries following the terrifying incident.
Shropshire Fire and Rescue sent three teams to assist at the chaotic scene, providing emergency medical care to the woman.
A spokeswoman for Ambulance Service said: “We were called to reports of an RTC [road traffic collision] on Wrexham Road in Whitchurch at 2.37pm and sent an ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance to the scene.
“On arrival, crews found a woman who they treated for minor injuries before conveying her to Royal Hospital.”
Long queues developed in the wake of the incident with motorists facing lengthy delays to their journey.
Highways also responded to Wrexham Road to manage road closures.
