said feels “complicated in my head” following the 2-1 loss.
The world No3 went on to say that she is in the “worst nightmare a tennis player can have.”
The Pole’s defeat ended her extraordinary run of 73 consecutive opening-match victories.
The all-Polish match began brightly for Swiatek as she stormed to a 6-1 drubbing in the opening set.
However Linette fought back in sensational fashion to win the next two sets 7-5 and 6-3.
The six-time Grand Slam winner earned just one break point in the second and third sets.
The defeat left Swiatek feeling “confused” about her game and the manner in which she let her strong start slip.
She said: ” It just was a bad match for me in the second and third sets. Unconsciously, or consciously, it’s hard for me to say.
“I need to work to get back from that, because I haven’t felt things like that for like five years.”
Swiatek will now seek a return to form following recent quarter final exits and her early departure from Miami.
She recently lost to Maria Sakkari at this year’s Qatar Open before Elina Svitolina beat her in the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.
