Will there be a Shadow and Bone season 2?

Fans have been waiting a long, long time to see Shadow and Bone. Now, that wait is finally over.

Netflix added the first season of Shadow and Bone on April 23, 2021. We have to imagine the series is already on its way to becoming a major hit for the streaming network. Given the popularity worldwide, the stellar cast and story, romance, and big-budget action, Netflix has a winner in Shadow and Bone, which is based on the popular book series that make up the Grishaverse by Leigh Bardugo.

When fans finish the first season, attention, then, shifts to the next season. Everyone is already wondering if Shadow and Bone season 2 is in the works at Netflix, so let’s just get to it.

Will there be a Shadow and Bone season 2?

Netflix has not officially announced Shadow and Bone season 2 yet. That doesn’t mean it’s not happening, though.

Netflix almost always waits a month or so before announcing the renewals of big original shows like this. We had to wait like three months for Netflix to officially announce Stranger Things season 4 was in the works. These things just take time.

According to a report from What’s on Netflix, Shadow and Bone season 2 is already in the works at Netflix. That was revealed prior to the release of the first season on Netflix. It’s becoming more popular for Netflix to order multiple seasons of its hit shows before new seasons air. We just saw Bridgerton was picked up for an additional two seasons, following the season 2 renewal.

If the show is popular, Netflix will renew it. That’s always been true. Netflix also often puts the writing team back at work before a season drops to make sure they can hit the ground running for the next season. Hopefully, that’s what is happening here.

With Shadow and Bone, I think it’s a bit different from other shows, honestly. I don’t think anyone needs to look at the metrics and viewership to see if Shadow and Bone is worthy of a second season.

In other words, I don’t think Netflix ordered Shadow and Bone only to release one season. There’s so much story left to be told with six stories from six other books that could be adapted. And I really hope that Bardugo and Eric Heisserer, the showrunner, and the creative team get a chance to tell those other stories and finish off the stories they just started telling.

We’ll let you know the official word on if Shadow and Bone is renewed for season 2. It might be a painful month or two while we wait for Netflix’s formal decision, but I have a really good feeling about Shadow and Bone season 2.
