Prominent northern activist and advocate for good governance, Bello Galadanci, widely known as Dan Bello, has asserted that the United States Senate, House of Representatives, and the European Union are currently reviewing reports related to what he has termed “Wike’s destruction of democracy in Nigeria.”
In a video shared on his X account on Thursday, Dan Bello emphasized that his concerns are not politically motivated but stem from a responsibility to protect Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
He stated that Nigeria is at a pivotal moment where “the decisions made by a few influential individuals may shape the future of 250 million people,” with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, at the heart of the issue.
“This is not about individual personalities; it’s about a recurring pattern, about power, and the gradual undermining of democratic principles,” he noted.
“If this situation remains unaddressed, it could lead Nigeria into the same despair that is affecting parts of the Sahel,” he added.
Referring to a document purportedly submitted to the US Senate, Dan Bello alleged that Wike has emerged as one of the most influential unelected figures in Nigeria’s political scene, utilizing state resources, the judiciary, and security forces “not to enhance democracy but to suppress dissent and weaken the opposition.”
He further accused Wike of fracturing opposition parties, including the PDP, Labour Party, and ADC, manipulating party structures, weaponizing the police, and exerting excessive influence over the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“This is not mere politics. This is the strangulation of multi-party democracy. Nowhere is this more evident than in Rivers State,” he concluded.
