As reported by LEADERSHIP, Matawalle expressed his views during an interview with DCL Hausa.

According to DAILY POST, there have been concerns regarding potential sanctions against Officer Yerima following the viral video of his confrontation with Wike on Tuesday.

Wike had visited a disputed piece of land in Gaduwa District, which allegedly belongs to a former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo (rtd), but was halted by the naval officer, resulting in a heated exchange.

In addressing the situation, Matawalle noted that the incident could have been avoided if it had been managed through appropriate channels.

The Minister praised Yerima’s composure during the incident, describing his behavior as disciplined and professional.

“It is evident that he was respectful while standing his ground. From our perspective, he did not breach any laws or military regulations.

“This entire situation could have been prevented. Prior to the minister's visit, he had already communicated with the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of Naval Staff, who assured him that the matter would be addressed,” Matawalle added.
