The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed the crucial role of road infrastructure in national development, emphasizing its impact on education, healthcare, security, and agriculture.
According to a press release issued by Rabi Musa Umar, Assistant Director of Press in the Office of the Hon. Minister, the remarks were made during Wike’s inspection of ongoing road projects in Gwagwalada and Kwali Area Councils on Friday, May 16, 2025. The Minister visited the 10-kilometer Aguma Palace–Radio Nigeria–New Market Road in Gwagwalada and the 15-kilometer A2 to Pai Road, linking the Abuja–Lokoja Expressway to Pai community in Kwali.
Speaking after the inspection, the Minister stated, “Road network is what brings development. When there are no roads, which school will you go to? Which hospital will you go to? If you are talking about agriculture, how do you bring your produce when there are no roads?”;; He added that road access helps rural farmers transport goods to urban markets and enhances security through features such as streetlights.
Wike expressed satisfaction with the quality of work and the enthusiastic reception from local communities. He noted that the projects are tangible evidence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes visible, impactful development. “We are happy when the people express their happiness over the performance of government. That energizes us and tells us we are on the right track,”;; he said.
He praised the contractors for maintaining high standards and delivering infrastructure that meets the needs of the communities. The Minister also attributed the successful implementation of various projects across the FCT to the support and leadership of President Tinubu. “When you have the right leadership, you achieve results,”;; he said.
Beyond road infrastructure, Wike noted that the FCT Administration is also investing in other critical sectors, particularly education. According to the press statement, more than 60 schools in the FCT have been renovated and furnished. “No sector will be left abandoned. Every sector will be focused on,”;; the Minister assured.
The inspection tour forms part of the FCT Administration’s activities ahead of the second anniversary of President Tinubu’s administration, during which several completed projects are expected to be commissioned.
