Kcee Reveals Why He Turned Down Flavour's Offer

Nigerian artist Kingsley Okonkwo, widely recognized as Kcee, has spoken out about the long-suspected feud with his fellow musician, Flavour.

It is worth noting that the two engaged in a social media conflict in 2024 after Flavour made a comment online about someone allegedly imitating his musical style.

While Flavour did not specify anyone, Kcee perceived the comment and responded appropriately. He cautioned Flavour against attempting to gatekeep Igbo cultural music, asserting that he had been in the music industry before Flavour's arrival.

During a recent interview with Yanga FM Lagos, Kcee recounted his first meeting with Flavour, which occurred years ago when renowned talent manager Soso Soberekon introduced him with the intention of signing him to his label.

The Limpopo singer elaborated that he chose not to offer Flavour a record deal at that time because he did not see potential in him.

However, he believes that their discord is not due to the rejection but rather stems from a superiority complex. He highlighted that some of his peers underestimate his talent because he does not boast about it.

“To this day, I remain puzzled by the reason for his animosity towards me, particularly regarding that incident where he claimed someone was copying him. The reality is that when certain individuals have dismissed you, hoping you will remain stagnant, and you work diligently to achieve a level they never anticipated, that’s what transpired.

“I entered the music industry before Flavour. Soso Soberekon introduced him to me years ago with the intention of signing him to my record label. I was already driving luxury cars and living large before he arrived in Lagos. I told Soso that I couldn't sign Flavour because I didn't see potential in him at that moment. It wasn't out of any animosity towards him.

“I don’t believe that is the reason he holds a grudge against me. But time will reveal the truth. Many of my colleagues underestimate my talent, and my humility has contributed to that. I don’t boast. I find no need for it. But as I always say, time will ultimately prove them wrong. My work consistently disproves every skeptic. Some of those who doubted me in the past have come back to apologize and acknowledge that they were mistaken about me,” Kcee stated.
