‘Why I don’t care much about material things’ – Made Kuti

Published on June 26, 2025 at 12:18 PM

Grammy-nominated Afrobeat musician, Made Kuti, has said the material things are not a priority for him.

He explained that he does not care much about material wealth due to his upbringing.

Speaking in a recent interview with Pulse, Kuti said it’s “weird”; to have seven or more cars, stressing that cars are depreciating assets.

“I’m the kind of person who just do what he wants. So a lot of my interests are... Maybe my dad was very clever with how he raised us. But the school of thought is, I don’t care much about materialistic things. For example, how many cars do you need to drive? I genuinely don’t understand why you need 7, 8 cars. They are depreciating assets. In the next couple of years, they will depreciate.

“So, it’s weird to me, but it’s an interest to another person.”;
