The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has provided an explanation for why US President Donald Trump referred to Nigeria as a “disgraceful country.”

In a statement made on Saturday, Trump warned that if the Nigerian government did not address the alleged genocide against Christians, the US would “immediately halt all aid and assistance to Nigeria and may very well intervene in that now disgraced country” to eliminate the terrorists reportedly responsible for the religious persecution.

In response, the ADC, through a post on the official X account of the party’s coalition mobilization wing, ADC Vanguard, suggested that Trump's comments stem from his awareness that the “man in charge” has concealed information from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

According to the ADC, Nigerians are suffering the “price of shame” due to the actions of corrupt leaders.

The post states, “Trump’s remark about our ‘disgraceful country’ did not come out of nowhere.

“He understands that the man in charge has a past hidden in FBI files.

“Nigeria is paying the price of shame. Only the ADC can restore our dignity.”

Why did Trump call Nigeria a disgraceful country?
Trump's remark was made in the context of his warning that the Nigerian government must address the alleged genocide against Christians, or else the US would stop all aid and potentially intervene in Nigeria.

What is the ADC's response to Trump's statement?
The ADC believes Trump's comment is related to the knowledge that the current leadership has hidden information from the FBI, and they assert that Nigeria is suffering due to the actions of corrupt leaders.
