Former President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Rev Felix Omobude, stated that despite the intentional targeting of Christians by terrorist groups for killings and abductions, they will not encourage Christians to resort to violence against criminals.

In an interview with reporters on Sunday, Omobude expressed that there is nothing inappropriate about churches and Christians organizing protective measures through the proper channels during services and events.

He addressed critical national issues, emphasizing that it is acceptable for the Nigerian government to seek external support in the fight against terrorism.

He remarked that had anyone predicted 15 years ago that the country would face such circumstances, people would have found it hard to believe.

“It would be irresponsible for leaders at certain levels to advocate for arms and violence. Violence breeds more violence, and we cannot afford to lose our nation. Our restraint stems from our belief that a united Nigeria is in our best interest, and I hope that those in power do not misinterpret our restraint as weakness,” he stated.

“Under the current circumstances, the church cannot advocate for armed resistance unless we aim to create chaos. We will continue to pray, advocate, and educate our community appropriately,” he added.

According to him, Nigeria has already been influenced by foreign entities, and the argument that external intervention would compromise the country’s sovereignty “is not valid.”
