The Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, has assured that the emergency erosion control and road construction contract it awarded for the Iberenta–Iyalu–Oro–Ibere road in Ikwuano LGA of Abia State will not be abandoned but will be completed.

The commissioner representing Abia State on the NDDC Board, Dimgba Eruba, gave the assurance on Friday during the flag-off of the road project.

He said that under the watch of President Bola Tinubu, the NDDC, as an interventionist agency, has been receiving every necessary support to execute projects, unlike what obtained in the past.

Dimgba, who promised that the contractor would deliver quality work, appealed to the community to support the contractor by not sabotaging his efforts.

He, however, directed the Abia community to report any shoddy work by the contractor to the Abia State NDDC office for proper action.

He praised President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly for enabling the NDDC with the resources to execute its projects.

In his remarks, the traditional ruler of the Oro-Ibere autonomous community, Eze Stanley Ijenwa, and the President-General of the Iberenta Development Union, Uchechi Ozuh, said their people had lived in fear for many decades because of the terrible road and erosion gully.

They promised to provide the necessary support for the contractor to deliver quality work.

Also speaking, the contractor handling the road project, Ako Obioma, said that the 3.3km work would commence in mid-October.
