BENFICA youth goalkeeper Samuel Soares scored a once-in-a-lifetime goal from inside his own half against Trofense.
The Portuguese giants found themselves 1-0 down in the second half of the Segunda Liga fixture.
But a moment of genius drew Benfica level with goalkeeper Soares, 20, taking matters into his own hands.
The shot-stopper controlled the ball well outside his own penalty area and punted a long kick towards the opposition’s goal.
Soares’ strike cannoned off the crossbar and hit the goalkeeper before nestling in the back of the net.
Wild scenes followed with subs spilling onto the pitch and the keeper celebrating near the halfway line.
Soares’ goal sparked a comeback with Benfica going on to win the fixture 2-1.
After the game, Soares said: âI saw that their goalkeeper was one step ahead and, having the wind in favour, I decided to take a risk.
“It went well, it is something that will remain etched in the memory of many.”
Fans praised Soares for his “amazing power and accuracy”, while others dubbed the goal “Puskas award worthy”.
One said on Twitter: “Actually looked like he was shooting.”
Another said: “Puskas Award.”
A third tweeted: “Loool bro ran to the halfway line then realised the same was gonna happen to him so ran back.”
