Vigilante members in Kano have arrested two young men suspected of phone snatching in the Guringawa area of Kumbotso Local Government.
The suspects, identified as Dini Auwal and Naziru Abubakar, were apprehended on Tuesday after they allegedly threatened a married woman with knives and snatched her phone while she was returning home.
Speaking to newsmen in Kano, the victim narrated how the suspects accosted her and demanded her phone under threat.
“They came to me on my way home and showed me some weapons, they looked like knives.
“I quickly handed over the phone. I prefer my life to the phone,”; she narrated.
The arrest, according to the vigilantes, followed multiple complaints from residents who reported being terrorized by the duo in recent weeks.
Ado Saleh Guringawa, speaking on behalf of the local vigilante commander, confirmed the arrest and said the suspects had been under surveillance.
“We had to deploy our men to keep a lookout because they have been terrorising people along Sheka to Guringawa,”; he said.
“Fortunately for us, they decided to rob this lady while our men were around.”;
Saleh added that the vigilantes recovered the stolen phone as well as other items believed to have been taken from previous victims.
“We also recovered the phone they took from her, and others believed to have been stolen as well,”; he said.
He assured the public that the suspects would be handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.
“They will be handed over to the police to face the law,”; Saleh said
