Victim of Choba fire incident not our student – UniPort

The management of the University of Port Harcourt has clarified that Cynthia Chukwundah, who was recently involved in a fire incident with her boyfriend at Choba, is not a student of the institution.

Earlier reports had claimed that Chukwundah was a 300-level student of the University.

But UniPort, in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Head of Information, Publications, and Public Relations, Sammy Kpenu, urged members of the public to desist from spreading unverified information and instead allow law enforcement agencies to carry out a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident.

The university reaffirmed its commitment to the safety, discipline, and general well-being of its students.

It noted that, following comprehensive internal checks and verification of student records, there is no evidence linking Chukwundah to the institution.

The management added that the university is closely monitoring the situation and is cooperating fully with relevant authorities to ensure that the matter is properly investigated.

The statement read, “Following thorough internal checks and verification of our student records, the University wishes to categorically state that Cynthia Chukwundah is not a student of the University of Port Harcourt.

“We deeply regret the loss of life associated with this unfortunate event and express our condolences to the families affected.

“We are also closely following developments and cooperating with the relevant authorities to ensure that the matter is properly investigated.”;
