The Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thoughts, Sam Amadi, has urged Nigeria to concentrate on leveraging the nation’s creativity to present itself positively to the world.

Amadi made this appeal on Thursday during an interview on Arise Television, which was monitored by DAILY POST.

His comments were in response to the recent travel ban imposed by the US government on Nigeria, among other countries.

“The increasing rate of migration to the United States is becoming a significant concern.

“Any president would be worried about individuals entering the country under the pretext of education or tourism and subsequently overstaying their visas.

“Thus, the first step is to address this issue domestically by taking measures to reduce the inclination to leave Nigeria and remain abroad.

“The second aspect is to consider how we can capitalize on our cultural strengths. We possess considerable cultural influence—be it in literature or music—but these assets are not being effectively utilized to enhance Nigeria’s reputation.

“The third point is the necessity for credible elections and trustworthy governance, similar to what Ghana has achieved. This is primarily why Ghana is not included in the US travel ban list. The narrative surrounding deportees is not the core issue; rather, the fact is that Ghana presents itself well in Washington, not due to its power, but because it is perceived as a decent nation.

“We need to focus on this third element to ensure that we have credible elections and a reliable government, which will allow us to be viewed as a country that not only exports oil but also one that the US could collaborate with,” he stated.
