The F/A-18 Super Hornet jet and the Sea Hawk helicopter were involved in a routine operation.

The MH-60R Sea Hawk went down at approximately 2:45 PM, followed by the Super Hornet half an hour later.

Both aircraft were conducting operations from the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier.

The crashes were deemed “very unusual” by U.S. President Donald Trump.

He suggested that a fuel issue might be the cause of the incidents.

“They believe it could be bad fuel,” Trump remarked to reporters aboard Air Force One.

“We will find out. There’s nothing to hide, sir.”

The U.S. Navy has lost four F/A-18 jets this year.

The F/A-18 was first introduced to the Navy in 1978 and can achieve top speeds of Mach 1.8 – nearly 1,200 mph.

The aircraft is powered by two turbofan engines and has a range exceeding 2,000 miles.
