A delegation from the United States, on a fact-finding mission regarding alleged attacks targeting Christians in Nigeria, visited Benue State on Monday.
During their visit, the delegation engaged with Catholic bishops and the traditional leader of the Tiv people.
US Congressman Riley Moore shared his experiences on X, expressing his support for the Tiv and Christian leaders in the area.
“It was an honor and profoundly moving to meet with His Excellency Bishop Wilfred Anagbe, Bishop Isaac Dugu, and His Royal Highness James Ioruza, the traditional ruler of the Tiv people, to discuss the ongoing genocidal campaign by the Fulani in Benue State,” Moore stated.
A steadfast advocate for the protection of Christian communities in Nigeria, Moore emphasized that the United States will not ignore the challenges highlighted by local leaders.
“Our brothers and sisters in Christ will no longer endure in silence,” he asserted. “The United States has heard your pleas, and we are working diligently towards solutions.”
Previously, Moore commended the Federal Government for its transparency and collaboration with the US in addressing the escalating insecurity in Nigeria. This followed his meeting with the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, on Sunday.
He characterized the trip to Nigeria as “very productive,” noting on X, “More details to come. Happy Sunday. God is Great!”
On Monday, he provided additional updates, detailing that discussions centered on terrorism in the North-East and violent attacks in the Middle Belt—issues he stated are of particular concern to President Donald Trump and himself.
“Concrete steps and actions were discussed at length, and if fully implemented, I believe they will enhance security across the country for all Nigerians, disrupt and dismantle terrorist organizations in the Northeast, and halt the killing of Christians (a specific concern for @POTUS and me), particularly in the Middle Belt,” Moore wrote.
He also praised the recent rescue of 100 abducted Catholic schoolchildren, expressing gratitude to the Nigerian government and President Bola Tinubu.
“I want to thank the Nigerian government and @officialABAT for rescuing the 100 innocent and precious Catholic school children,” he stated.
“This is a positive indication of the government’s growing response to the security situation and demonstrates commitment to the emergency declaration made by President Tinubu,” he added.
Moore further noted that US concerns were “positively received” and highlighted the establishment of a joint task force between Nigeria and the United States as evidence of enhanced collaboration.
