Acting U.S. Consul General, JoEllen Gorg, on Thursday joined the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, to officially open the Ogun Tech Hub Window on America, the 29th American Space in Nigeria.
DAILY POST reports that the project is a public-private partnership involving the Ogun State Government through the Bureau of Information Technology, the forward-thinking GFA Technologies Group, and the U.S. Mission.
Speaking at the opening, which took place at the Ogun State Tech Hub on Kobape Road in Abeokuta, the governor described the project as a vibrant and welcoming idea designed to link the dreams of the youth with the opportunities the world has to offer.
Abiodun disclosed that the space offers access to American-written books, journalism, and internet resources, in addition to free programming, an English conversation club, digital literacy training, and discussions on world events.
He said, “This initiative represents more than a space; it is a platform for knowledge exchange, skills development, and peer-to-peer collaboration between our young minds and their counterparts not just in the United States but in the entire world. This is where global ideas and ideals converge with local ambitions.”;
Also, the Acting Consular General, JoEllen Gorg, described the facility as a symbol of engagement and opportunity aimed at enhancing the entrepreneurial, leadership, and technical advancement skills of young Nigerians.
Gorg revealed that the Window has access to billions of scholarly articles and dissertations, thousands of physical and electronic books, fast internet, and modern computers. She encouraged youths, entrepreneurs, educators, and those working in the creative sector to utilise and explore the Window.
In his remarks, Debo Omololu of GFA Technologies stated that his company had invested N400 million in Ogun State and employed over 1,000 people in software engineering at the centre. He called on youths to take advantage of the opportunity provided to them so that they would be relevant in the future.
