The United States has launched a “massive strike” against the Islamic State group in Syria as a response to an attack that resulted in the deaths of three Americans.

Pete Hegseth stated that Operation Hawkeye Strike aims to eliminate “fighters, infrastructure, and weapons sites” following a deadly assault on American forces that claimed the lives of three US citizens.

American forces executed air and ground strikes on several targets in central Syria today, according to US officials who spoke to CBS.

This action follows the ambush in Palmyra on December 13, which resulted in the deaths of two US soldiers and a US civilian interpreter.

The Defence Secretary confirmed the strikes in a social media post, stating: “This is not the beginning of a war – it is a declaration of vengeance. The United States of America, under President Trump’s leadership, will never hesitate and will always defend our people.

“If you target Americans – anywhere in the world – you will spend the remainder of your brief, anxious life knowing that the United States will pursue you, locate you, and eliminate you without mercy.

“Today, we targeted and eliminated our enemies. Many of them. And we will persist.”

President Donald Trump later stated on Truth Social that the US is “inflicting very serious retaliation, just as I promised, on the murderous terrorists responsible.”

The US Central Command confirmed that forces “commenced a large-scale strike” against ISIS.
