Residents of Jabo town in the Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State shared their distressing experiences following a US airstrike late on Thursday.
Many residents initially mistook the fiery descent for a plane crash.
According to Vanguard, a resident and Information Officer for Tambuwal LGA, Abubakar Jabo, stated that the incident occurred around 10:30 PM.
“Due to the loud noise and the speed at which the burning object fell, many of us believed it was an aircraft crash.
“However, when we cautiously approached the scene, we realized it was not an aircraft but something entirely different,” he explained.
In a related comment, community chief Sarkin Fawan Jabo, Muhammadu Abubakar, reassured the public that the communities of Jabo and Bargini have coexisted peacefully and have never harbored terrorists or bandits.
He noted that only one kidnapping incident had been reported in the area in the year 2000, emphasizing that the region has remained tranquil since then.
This bombardment has raised concerns not only in Sokoto State but throughout Nigeria, as citizens question the source, intent, and wider implications of such operations in previously secure areas.
