GLOBAL websites have been taken down after a critical software update sparked an online meltdown for governments and businesses.

The UK has launched an urgent probe to identify any exposure in its online services after major flaws were found in the PHP programming language that can be found on websites such as Wikipedia and Amazon.

The UK’s National Cyber Security Centre said: “Where immediate remediation is not feasible, organisations should consider taking the system offline until it can be fully mitigated.”

OpenAI said it has been leading a team of researchers for the past two months to look into the PHP programming language issue.

The ChatGPT developers have also been working with and supporting the PHP team to find fixes.

The company described the breach as “one of the most impactful security issues in recent memory”.
