UEFA has announced the provisional one-match suspension of Benfica player Gianluca Prestianni following his altercation with Real Madrid winger Vinicius in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 playoff tie last week.

This comes after Vinicius alleged that Prestianni racially abused him during the encounter in Portugal.

This means that Prestianni will not play the Champions League playoffs return leg at Real Madrid this week as investigations continue regarding the alleged racism from the Argentine.

An inspector from UEFA’s Ethics and Disciplinary Commission imposed the provisional suspension on Prestianni over the racial slur targeted at Vinicius, under Article 14 on “discriminatory behaviour”.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid won the first leg 1-0, thanks to Vinicius’s only goal of the encounter.
