The United Bank for Africa, UBA Plc has clarified reports of a fire incident at one of its branches on Lagos Island on Tuesday.

Eyewitnesses said panic broke out after flames erupted in a building along Broad Street that houses one of the bank’s branches. Videos circulating on social media showed staff attempting to escape through windows, with some reportedly leaping from the upper floors to safety.

In a statement, UBA confirmed the fire but stressed that, contrary to online claims, the affected building was not the UBA House at Marina, which serves as its head office.

“As against reports online and social media, the affected building is not the UBA House, Marina, the Bank’s head office. We have ensured the safety and well-being of our staff and customers in the branch,” the statement said.

Although the cause of the blaze has yet to be determined, the bank assured the public that relevant authorities had been notified and that safety protocols were promptly activated to protect lives.
