One is believed to have died while desperately trying to save the other.
The brothers from Magione, Italy had out training their pet ahead of the upcoming hunting season when tragedy struck.
A pigeon reportedly landed on cables carrying around 20,000 volts, suspended roughly 10 metres above the ground.
In a bid to usher the bird down, one of the twins used a carbon-fibre pole commonly used in hunting.
It is believed he inadvertently touched the live wires, killing him instantly.
His brother is thought to have rushed to help, only to succumb to the same shocking fate.
The pair were later found lying together in tall grass beneath an embankment.
When they failed to return home later that night and didn’t answer their phones, their concerned father, Giorgio, went out looking for them.
With the help of the twins’ uncle, they tracked their location and rushed to the area.
To their horror, they found the brothers unresponsive in a field, locked in each other’s embrace.
Paramedics raced to the scene and desperately attempted to resuscitate them, but were unable to save either man.
Francesco and Giacomo were just a month away from their 23rd birthdays.
They worked in their father’s heating and plumbing business and spent their spare time caring for their birds.
Town mayor Massimo Lagetti, who knew the pair personally, said: “They were two exceptional young men who worked with great dedication and were always extremely kind.
“It’s a tragedy that is very hard to come to terms with.”
Their devastated parents said: “Francesco and Giacomo were our strength, our present and our future,” they told local media.
“They were born together and they left together, united by a bond that went beyond brotherhood.”
An investigation is now under way to determine exactly how the fatal accident unfolded.
