Turkey: Galatasaray coach explains Osimhen’s substitution against Sivasspor

Published on May 04, 2025 at 06:09 AM

Galatasaray head coach, Okan Buruk has said the decision to substitute Victor Osimhen against Sivasspor was to protect the forward.

The holders defeated Sivasspor 4-1 at the RAMS Park on Saturday night to boost their chances of winning a third consecutive Turkish Super Lig title.

Osimhen netted twice for Galatasaray in the game.

The striker has so far registered 33 goals across all competitions for the Yellow and Reds this season.

The Nigerian was replaced by Dries Mertens in the 70th minute

“I prevented him from raising his career record (laughing). I took him out of the game early. Thinking about the next match, I wanted to reduce the risk of injury and he is on the verge of a card,”; Buruk told the club’s official website.

“The players actually want to continue. He could have scored a hat-trick today. We are also fighting a separate battle to protect our players on the sidelines. That is why I may have prevented him from improving his career record. ”;
