Heartbreaking moment Tunisia stars watch Australia win on PHONE as shock World Cup victory vs France becomes meaningless

TUNISIA players were left helplessly watching another game on a phone as their shock win against France failed to get them World Cup qualification.

The African nation claimed one of the most incredible victories in their footballing history as they beat the World Cup holders.

Tunisian bench players were left more invested in events elsewhere than their teammates beating France
Many on Twitter had sympathy for Tunisia

But the score in the other group D game being played at the same time between Australia and Denmark meant Tunisia’s historic win was rendered meaningless.

An incredible afternoon of drama in the final round of group games began when Wahbi Khazri scored just before the hour mark.

The former Sunderland man’s superb individual goal was enough for Tunisia to qualify if Australia and Denmark drew.

But their joy lasted only minutes as Mathew Leckie scored a brilliant individual goal of his own to give the Aussies the lead.

With Tunisia needing a Danish equaliser to go through, attention turned to events elsewhere.

Despite their country closing in on an historic win, most of the Tunisian bench were crowded around a phone watching the other game at the Al Janoub Stadium.

Twitter was absolutely entranced by the incredible and heartbreaking World Cup drama.

One person said: “Tunisia checking on the phone to see if they’re going through is so sad.

Another less sympathetic person adding a series of laughing emojis before adding “Tunisia players watching the Denmark game on [a] phone.”

One tweeter added: “Laughing at Denmark. Gutted for Tunisia. Beating France but being failed by Denmark.”

Another person hooked by the drama said: “Tunisian fans were checking score of Australia vs Denmark on their phones instead of celebrating their own victory in hope to be alive in tournament. Well played Tunisia.”

And another hopeful fan said: “Denmark should make themselves useful and equalize for Tunisia we beg.”

The Socceroos held on against disappointing Denmark to qualify as group runners-up behind France.

While Tunisia managed to cling on to their 1-0 win against the 2018 World Cup champions.

The victory did not come without some late drama though as Antoine Griezmann put the ball into the net deep in stoppage time.

A late intervention by VAR chalked off his strike for offside but the French have been left raging by the application of the rules and are trying to get the result overturned.
