The United States Department of Homeland Security, DHS, has concluded plans to pay for the commercial flights of illegal immigrants, who self-deport from the US.
According to a post on X by a Fox News correspondent, Bill Melugin, DHS will also pay the “aliens an additional $1,000 once they are confirmed to have left the country”;.
DHS told Fox News that the move would save “American taxpayers 70%, as it currently costs DHS over $17,000 to arrest, detain, and deport someone”; from the country.
It stated that, against the $17,000 for arrest, the “self-removal flights and the $1000 stipend is estimated to cost just $4,500, and will be safer for ICE and preserve their resources”;.
To benefit from the new policy, illegal immigrants must register on the CBP Home app and file their notice to leave the United States in order to receive the financial assistance.
The stipend is also expected to be paid only when the “aliens”; are confirmed to have arrived in their country of origin.
DAILY POST reports that since his return to the White House in January this year, President Donald Trump’s administration has been clamping down on illegal immigrants.
