Trump Pope meme worked — American reacts to Leo XIV’s emergence as Pontiff

Published on May 08, 2025 at 06:54 PM

An American media personality, Benny Johnson, has suggested that United States President Donald Trump’s meme concerning the Pope was effective in responding to the emergence of Cardinal Robert Prevost—now known as Leo XIV—as the new Catholic pontiff.
Johnson disclosed this in a statement on his X account on Thursday.
His comment follows the election of Leo XIV as the newly elected Catholic Pope after the death of Pope Francis.
Reacting, Johnson stated that the Vatican clearly did not want tariffs, implying that Leo XIV represents yet another victory for Trump.

“The Trump Pope meme worked. Now we have an American pope for the first time in history.
“The Vatican clearly did not want tariffs. Another Trump win,”; he wrote on X.

DAILY POST reports that as the first American Pope on Thursday.

In response to Leo XIV’s emergence, Trump stated that it is a great honour to the United States.
This development follows —posted on his Truth Social account—which went viral and sparked controversy.
