Footage posted by Hegseth shows the drug-laden vessels careering through the ocean.
A massive blast erupts from the water as a precision weapon strikes the boats.
Moments later, they’re engulfed in flames before disappearing in a thick cloud of smoke.
Hegseth said today’s blast targeted vessels operated by Designated Terrorist Organizations (DTO) in the Eastern Pacific.
He said the ships were travelling along a “known narco-trafficking route” and were carrying drugs.
Eight male “narco-terrorists” were aboard the first boat struck by the deadly blast.
Four others were killed on the second ship, and three on the third.
Hegseth didn’t specify where the strike took place but said the bombs were dropped in international waters and insisted “no U.S forces were harmed”.
The latest blasts come as the US ramps up pressure on Nicolas Maduro’s regime as part of Trump’s war on drugs.
The US President has so far amassed around 10,000 troops, a group of US marines and at least 10 warships to the Caribbean.
Last week, it was also revealed the US president had deployed USS Gerald Ford – the – to the region.
On Sunday, .
The White House said the deployment was part of Trump’s ongoing efforts to put an end to drug trafficking.
His war on drugs has been punctuated by lethal boat strikes on “narco terrorists” allegedly smuggling drugs into the US.
Washington claims to have destroyed at least 10 boats suspected of smuggling narcotics – killing 43 people since September.
Trump has hinted that could soon move onto land.
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro called the plan “a plot” to oust him from power.

Analysts, meanwhile, suggested this show of force represents a modern extension of the Monroe Doctrine – now rebranded as the “.”
This 19th-century U.S. policy justified intervention throughout the Americas under the pretext of protecting regional stability and national interests.
Venezuelan Attorney General Tarek William Saab, a close ally of Maduro, said there was “no doubt” that Trump is attempting to overthrow the Venezuelan government.
“Trump wants to turn Venezuela into a colony of the US,” Saab claimed.
When asked about the risk of a land invasion, he said: “It shouldn’t happen, but we are prepared.”
Despite this, Saab insisted that Venezuela remains open to diplomacy, adding the country was “still ready to resume dialogue” with the US, despite what he described as its “illegitimate fight against drug trafficking.”
The Venezuelan president has repeatedly claimed that the US is trying to drive him out of power, as Trump has accused the country of harboring criminals.
Washington has offered a $50 million reward for anyone who can give information that will lead to Maduro’s arrest.
