The Peter Obi Media Team (POMT) has criticized the Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), asserting that true patriotism involves speaking truth to power rather than endorsing failure.

POMT made this statement in response to the APC's remarks attacking the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, regarding his comments on US President Donald Trump’s allegations of Christian genocide in Nigeria.

It is important to note that Trump recently designated Nigeria due to claims of Christian genocide occurring within the country.

Obi stated that President Trump’s declaration should raise serious concerns for every responsible Nigerian.

He emphasized that Nigeria is currently facing an unprecedented level of insecurity, resulting in significant loss of life and property.

The Lagos APC accused Obi of seeking political advantage instead of exhibiting true statesmanship.

In response to the APC’s allegations, POMT asserted that the attack on Obi illustrates the ruling party's preference for targeting voices of conscience rather than addressing Nigeria’s escalating crises.

“Let it be clearly stated: Patriotism is not silence in the face of national decline. Genuine love for one’s country is reflected in the courage to speak truth to power, not in the loudness of flattery directed at those in authority.

“When a nation suffers from insecurity, unemployment, economic stagnation, corruption, and international disgrace, it is natural for responsible leaders to raise an alarm.

“Peter Obi’s concern regarding Nigeria’s current global image is not political opportunism; it serves as a wake-up call to a government that has normalized failure and propaganda as its form of governance.

“If the APC government had demonstrated even half the efficiency in addressing Nigeria's issues as it does in issuing press statements against perceived adversaries, our nation would not be among the most insecure, most indebted, and most impoverished in the world,” POMT concluded.
