Troops kill seven suspected Boko Haram, ISWAP fighters in Rann, Damboa operations

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have neutralised seven suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters in separate clearance operations carried out in Rann and Damboa areas of Borno State.

The operations were disclosed on Thursday by security analyst Zagazola Makama in a post on his official X handle, where he detailed the coordinated efforts by Nigerian forces to dislodge terrorists from key flashpoints in the Northeast.

According to the report, the first encounter occurred on Wednesday when troops of 3 Battalion, operating alongside Hybrid Forces and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), engaged a group of terrorists attempting to loot food items from a broken-down vehicle along the Gamboru–Ngala Main Supply Route near Rann.

The troops responded with firepower, killing six of the assailants and recovering two AK-47 rifles, each loaded with a magazine. One magazine contained four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, while the other had six rounds.

In a separate operation, troops of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Molai, acting on credible intelligence, laid an ambush near Komala village along the Maiduguri–Damboa road in Damboa Local Government Area. The ambush, which targeted terrorists believed to be transiting toward the Sambisa Forest, led to the death of one insurgent.

During the operation, the troops also recovered several motorcycles and materials used in assembling improvised explosive devices (IEDs), which were allegedly intended for planting along the route.

Military sources described the operations as part of ongoing efforts to deny terrorists freedom of movement and to ensure the safety of civilians across the theatre of operations.
