Troops have foiled a robbery attempt and killed a suspected armed robber during an operation in Kaduna State.

The incident was disclosed in a post shared on X on Saturday by security analyst Zagazola Makama.

According to the post, the operation followed a distress call from a motorist who reported the activities of armed robbers along the Mallagum–Kagoro–Kaura checkpoint axis in Kaura Local Government Area.

Security sources said troops quickly mobilised to the area and carried out a route clearance operation. During the patrol, they encountered the suspected robbers and engaged them with superior firepower.

“One of the armed robbers was neutralised during the exchange, while others escaped into nearby bushes with suspected gunshot wounds,” the source told Makama.

After the encounter, troops searched the area and recovered a locally made gun, a cutlass, and a knife, among other items.

The source added that the soldiers fired six rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition during the operation.

Efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects, while calm has returned to the affected route, according to the post.
