A FAMILY including a seven-month-old girl died in a horror crash on their way back from a football tournament.
Abu Camara, 36, his wife, 30, their baby and an 18-year-old woman believed to be a cousin died on Saturday when their car left the road and crashed into trees.
Abu and the two women were declared dead at the scene, with the baby girl rushed to hospital – but she tragically couldn’t be saved.
Cops have arrested a 33-year-old man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, and took him to hospital with serious injuries.
Emergency services were called to a stretch of road between the A50 Island and the A516 in Derby at around 11pm on Saturday.
Cops said all five people were from Leeds in West Yorkshire, and their family members are being supported by specialist officers.
Today the Gambia Welfare Society, Leeds, paid tribute to Abu, saying he was returning from a tournament in Birmingham when they crashed.
It added: “Our community in Leeds, especially the Sarahuleh community, has been struck by a devastating tragedy.
“Abu was a dedicated servant of his community, passionate about his Deen, supporting the new mosque, and mentoring young children through .
“He will be remembered for his kindness, humility, and selfless service.”
The society wished the families of those involved “strength and patience during this heartbreaking time” and said it was “grateful” the driver had survived the incident, adding that it was “praying for his full and speedy recovery”.
Cops said: “The relatives of those involved are aware and are receiving support from specialist officers. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.
“We are continuing to appeal for anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward.
“Officers are also keen to hear from anyone who has any dash cam footage which may have captured the incident.”
