The Alicante side wrote: “Today we write a message we never wanted to write.

“Hercules CF deeply regrets the passing of Aitor Escribano, a player on our Under-12 C team, at just 11 years old.

“Today the Hercules CF family is devastated.

“We at Hercules CF want to send all our love, strength, and support to his family, friends, teammates, and everyone who had the privilege of sharing moments with him.

In moments like this, there are no words capable of expressing the pain of such an unfair and incomprehensible loss.

“There are no words. Rest in peace, Aitor.”

Several other Spanish clubs flocked to send their best wishes, including rivals Elche, who wrote: “From Elche Club de Futbol, we wish to convey our most sincere condolences for the passing of Aitor.

“Our affection and solidarity to all those who today suffer his loss.”

And CF Intercity said: “From CF Intercity, we join in the grief and deeply regret the loss of Aitor.

“All our strength, compassion, and support to his family and loved ones. We are so sorry; what unjust news.”

UD Ibiza added: “From UD Ibiza, we wish to extend our most sincere condolences to Hercules CF and the entire blanquiazul family in light of this terrible news.

“All our affection, support, and strength to their family, friends, teammates, and loved ones during this time of profound grief.”

Meanwhile, the Valencian Community Federation said: “A very strong hug to the club and the family from all of our football team.”
