Holidaymakers can be seen realising what is happening before sprinting away to avoid being stung.
Eyewitnesses said a low-flying cloud of bees suddenly appeared over the shores of Adriatic Riviera.
The insects quickly formed a temporary hive around a parasol under the command of their queen.
Within minutes, the rest of the swarm had arrived, blanketing the umbrella and the sunbed beneath it.
Beachgoers were forced to evacuate as workers cordoned off the area with tape.
One witness said: βThe queen bee chose to land on the parasol and, in no time, bees started arriving from all directions, settling on the sunbed as well.β
Another added: βThe queen bee chose to settle there and the whole swarm followed her.β
The dramatic scene was caused by a rare but natural phenomenon that occurs during swarming season.
At this time of year, a bee colony may split, with the queen leading thousands of workers in search of a new home.
Before settling permanently, swarms often temporarily settle while scout bees search for a suitable location.
A local beekeeper was eventually called in to carry out a controlled removal.
He reportedly located the queen and placed her in a special box, and the worker bees followed in an orderly procession.
The operation went off without a hitch, allowing beach activities to resume as normal.
Similar swarms have been reported in nearby areas in recent days, including the seaside resort of Riccione.
Experts say that while swarms can appear intimidating in crowded public spaces, they are generally harmless if left undisturbed.
They added that the insects are focused on relocating their colony and are far less interested in attacking people.
