players were given five days off after the Toon defeat, with last month’s exit meaning that they have no match this weekend.

With the squad due back for training on Monday, club chiefs have begun their interview process for recruiting Frank’s replacement.

SunSport understands that the 49-year-old is keen on a move to the Premier League, having snubbed offers from Saudi Arabia since being sacked by RB Leipzig last March.

Despite being out of work, Rose remains on his former club’s payroll until the end of June.

It is expected that it would take a six-figure sum to get the German out of that deal.

Rose would prefer to begin his next managerial tenure with a full pre season to prepare, but it is not ruled out that he could join Spurs immediately.

Simons, 22, enjoyed two productive years in the , with most of that stint under Rose’s management.

Rose is one of five contenders to so far emerge in the race to succeed Frank.

Another former Dortmund boss in the running is Edin Terzic.

The 43-year-old has turned down plenty of interest since leaving BVB in 2024, including from side Monaco.

Terzic won 55 of his 96 matches in charge at Signal Iduna Park – while also guiding his side to the Champions League final in 2024.

He asked to leave the club within a fortnight of their 2-0 defeat to at Wembley, and has not managed since.

Terzic has worked in England before, having acted as ‘s assistant manager at between 2015 and 2017.

De Zerbi, 46, earlier this week following their 5-0 drubbing at last Sunday.

But it is not clear whether the Italian would be willing to step straight into another job without a break first.

Ferencvaros boss Keane, meanwhile, would be – but only on a permanent basis, and not in an interim capacity.

But the situation is complicated by Pochettino’s commitment to the US national team, which he is set to lead at this summer’s World Cup.

Spurs would need to appoint an interim manager in the meantime, should they want to reunite with Poch.

But given their current plight, sitting just five points above the relegation zone, it remains to be seen whether they would be willing to go down this route.

Tottenham have still not confirmed what is happening with Frank’s backroom staff.

The Dane brought Justin Cochrane, Chris Haslam and Joe Newton over with him from .

While John Heitinga was recruited last month following his brief stint as boss.

Tottenham are next in action on February 22.

The new boss will be faced with a huge match straight off the bat, as Spurs host at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
