The Financial Times claim any deal would potentially help to resolve long-running tension in the club’s ownership group.

Since acquiring Chelsea in a £2.5billion move in 2022, Boehly and Walter are said to have repeatedly clashed with co-owners Clearlake and Behdad Eghbali over strategy.

Clearlake are the majority owner of the Stamford Bridge outfit with 60 per cent of shares, but have joint control with Boehly as chairman of the club.

The report adds there has been years of on and off negotiations between the two parties, but it was not certain any deal would be struck.

SunSport has approached Chelsea, Clearlake and Walter for comment.

The move comes amid Walter’s business empire facing regulatory scrutiny.
