The Centre for Leadership Legacy International, also known as Centre LLI, has once again urged President Bola Tinubu to reject any actions by his cabinet members that could compromise the integrity of his administration.
The civil society organization (CSO) issued a statement on Sunday, calling on President Tinubu to investigate allegations of certificate forgery involving any member of his cabinet, especially concerning the ongoing dispute surrounding his Minister of Interior, Olubumi Tunji-Ojo.
The statement, attributed to the centre’s spokesman, Davies Isaiah Ijele, conveyed concern that, despite public outcry and repeated calls for an investigation into discrepancies regarding the minister’s credentials, the government has remained silent.
It is worth noting that the controversy over the legitimacy and administrative handling of Tunji-Ojo’s academic and service qualifications was initially brought to light by an online news platform. This issue has since dominated public conversation, with analysts suggesting government complicity due to the lack of a timely response to calls for a comprehensive inquiry.
However, Ijele warned that the increasing perception of alleged nepotism and selective enforcement of justice under the Tinubu administration could undermine public confidence in the government’s anti-corruption efforts.
The centre also urged the minister to address the controversy surrounding his WAEC certificate, highlighting that the issuing authority had refused to verify whether he sat for the WAEC examination, citing its rights under the Freedom of Information Act, Section 14 (I).
“Why is WAEC refusing to respond to a straightforward request? Why is Ojo himself avoiding revealing his WAEC examination centre and WAEC number?” questioned the CSO.
“The minister should clarify the situation himself and publish his WAEC certificate. Normally, we shouldn’t even have to contact WAEC for this information; it should be provided by the minister directly.
“Remember when Dino Melaye was asked to provide his details, he made them public. That is why we believe Ojo should come forward and clear his name,” the statement continued.
The CSO further asserted that the government’s approach to Tunji-Ojo’s certificate controversy has been marked by ongoing defense and lack of escalation, rather than implementing punitive or investigative actions.
“Others facing similar certificate controversies have been treated accordingly, either asked to resign or dismissed; why is the presidency remaining silent on Tunji-Ojo?” it stated.
