The Minister of Defence, Muhammad Abubakar Badaru, has conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s appreciation to the military personnel in Kebbi State for their courage and dedication in combating the menace of the “Lakurawa”; bandits.

Speaking to journalists after a closed-door meeting in Birnin Kebbi, Badaru said he was in the state with a team of security experts from the Office of the National Security Adviser to conduct a comprehensive reassessment of the security situation.

The minister held consultations with military leaders at the 1 Battalion, Nigerian Army, Dukku Barracks before proceeding to meet with Governor Nasir Idris at the Government House.

According to Badaru, President Tinubu sent a personal message of thanks to both Governor Idris and the military for their effective operations, which have significantly improved security in the region.

He noted that the overall security landscape in Kebbi—and Nigeria as a whole—has seen marked progress.

The improved safety has allowed farmers to return to their fields, leading to productive harvests.

Badaru also praised Governor Nasir Idris for his strong commitment to security, saying, “I know the situation in Kebbi prior to his ascension to power with regards to insecurity, and what we have now is a remarkable turnaround.”;
